Its acute toxicity, bioaccumulation potential, and role as an endocrine disruptor make Endosulfan a highly controversial pesticide. It was sprayed indiscriminately on cashew plantations in my village and neighbouring villages like Enmagage, Kasargod, Kerala. As someone who had seen people suffer the after-effects of this deadly toxin, I wanted to leverage the power of communication to get this poison banned.
What started as a college project transformed into a print campaign that took the form of an open letter to the chief minister of Kerala, urging him to ban this killer pesticide. The campaign sparked a national debate and, along with numerous other protests, played a key role in banning Endosulfan in the State.
It bagged me my first international award, the New York festivals Silver World Medal in 2003.
